While attempting to cross the Strait by swimming in an inner tube, a young Moroccan was barely saved from hypothermia by the Salvamento Marítimo.
According to Algesiras Al Minuto, it was 7:40 am on Saturday when the rescue services received a call from a ship. The crew would have spotted an individual in a floating device, the media reports. Immediately, the alert was given to the ships in the area.
Around 8:30 am, rescuers pulled a young man of Maghrebi origin out of the water, whom they immediately transferred to the port of Saladillo, in Algesiras, reports the same source.
For its part, the Red Cross provided Europa Press with precise information about the young man. According to the humanitarian organization, the rescued young man is a 24-year-old Moroccan who presented "severe hypothermia" and had to be admitted to care.
