Moroccan Migrant’s Death Near Ceuta Sparks Calls for Investigation

The body of a young Moroccan who was trying to reach the Spanish enclave of Ceuta was recovered from the sea last Thursday. The North Observatory of Human Rights (ONDH) is calling for an investigation to be opened.
Saber Azouz, a 20-year-old Moroccan, died at sea. According to his family, "traces of blood were found on his clothes," the North Observatory of Human Rights (ONDH) said in a statement posted on its Facebook page, demanding "that the deliberate murder of this defenseless migrant be elucidated." According to the association, the Spanish forces are the presumed perpetrators of this murder. In the eyes of the ONDH, Morocco is "responsible for not ensuring a decent life for its citizens" and for having "exploited migration for political purposes," reports AFP.
More than 8,000 people, including 2,700 minors, crossed the border separating Morocco from the Spanish enclave of Ceuta between Monday and Tuesday. More than 6,000 have been expelled to Morocco. A migration crisis with the air of reprisals on the part of the Moroccan authorities. Since the emergency admission of the Polisario Secretary General, Brahim Ghali, to a hospital in Logroño, under the borrowed name of Mohamed Ben Battouche, of Algerian nationality, tensions have escalated between the two countries.
