Moroccan Melons Fetch Premium Prices in EU Market, Outpacing Spanish Competitors

The Moroccan melon was sold more expensively than the Spanish one on the European market in 2020, according to data from Faostat, the statistical agency of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the Euroestacom (Icex-Eurostat) statistical service.
The Spanish melon was sold on the Community markets at an average price of 0.82 euros per kilo in 2020, i.e. 141.18% more expensive than in previous years, according to Euroestacom (ICEX-EUROSTAT) data. That same year, Morocco sold its melons on the EU markets at 1.20 euros per kilo, i.e. 46.34% more expensive than those from Spain.
Turkish melons were sold that same year at an average price of 0.82 euros per kilo on the EU markets, while Israeli melons were sold at an average price of 0.71 euros per kilo, according to Faostat data, which exceeded the price charged by Spanish producers by 0.37 euros per kilo.
