Moroccan Man Sentenced in Spain for 58kg Cannabis Smuggling Attempt

A Moroccan national was sentenced by the Criminal Court of Madrid to a term of 6 months in prison, accompanied by a fine of 200,000 euros.
The man had been arrested in January by Guardia civil agents in possession of 58 kilos of cannabis resin that he had carefully hidden in his car.
According to Spanish media, the president of the court nevertheless granted a commutation of sentence to the Moroccan national, who acknowledged all the charges, while requiring him to pay the entire lump sum fine.
Prosecuted for drug trafficking and public health offenses, aggravated by the attempted escape, the man nevertheless benefited from a reduced sentence, despite the seriousness of the acts committed, the media report.
