Moroccan Man Sentenced for Assaulting Off-Duty Officer on Zaragoza Bus

Bilal M., a Moroccan who assaulted a plainclothes police inspector on a bus in Zaragoza last year, was sentenced on Friday to two and a half years in prison with probation and to pay 12,345 euros in damages.
The prosecution and the defense reached this agreement on Friday, after the Moroccan acknowledged the facts. Detained since last October at the Zaragoza prison, he will now be free to move around. The defendant had violently assaulted the police officer, who was on vacation, who was reproaching him for not wearing a mask on a bus, recalls Heraldo.

The judge granted the requests of the lawyers for the prosecution and the defense to sentence the Moroccan to two and a half years in prison for assault and battery and to pay 12,345 euros in damages.
The judge warned the defendant that during the probation period of three and a half years, he must not commit any new offense, "however small," under penalty of returning to prison to serve the rest of his sentence.
