Moroccan Man Jailed for Attempted Murder of Former Priest in Spain

A young man of Moroccan origin was placed in detention on Friday in Gijón (Asturias), after being found guilty of attempted murder on Jesús María Menéndez Suárez (Father Chus), a former priest.
The accused admitted the facts before the judge of the Gijón (Asturias) court, who ordered his provisional detention without bail, as requested by the prosecution due to the seriousness of the facts and the irregular situation of the Moroccan who could flee or attempt a new attack against his victim.
Jesús María Menéndez Suárez (Father Chus) was assaulted on Thursday in his residence, Calle Donato Argüelles in Gijón, by the young man who used broken plates, according to sources close to the victim to La Nueva España. In 2015, Father Chus was excommunicated after an accusation of sexual abuse of minors. He is currently the subject of an investigation for another case of drug trafficking and corruption of minors.
Father Chus, who was losing a lot of blood due to his injuries, was taken by ambulance to the Cabueñes hospital where he received a blood transfusion. His vital prognosis is not compromised and he is recovering gradually.
