Moroccan Man Faces 25 Years for Girlfriend's Fatal Stabbing in Spain

The 42-year-old Moroccan Mustapha B. faces 25 years in prison for the murder of his girlfriend, stabbed eight times with a knife. On Monday, on the first day of the trial, the defendant claimed that the victim had stabbed herself with the knife during their argument in the car.

At the first hearing of the trial that began on Monday before the court in Granada, in the presence of a popular jury, the defendant claimed that the victim had stabbed herself with the knife. Mustapha B., at the beginning of the hearing, apologized to the victim’s family and admitted to having argued with her about her alleged drug addiction. This new version contrasts with the one he had given during the investigation, where he had indicated that the young woman had been found bleeding in an isolated place, noted Francisco Ruiz Baena, the lawyer for the plaintiff who wished, like the prosecution, that the defendant be sentenced to 25 years in prison for murder.

On Tuesday, several witnesses will be called to testify. Among others, the mother and aunt of the victim, as well as the health workers who tried to treat her after the defendant took her to a health center. At the entrance to the courthouse, the victim’s mother, Belinda Justo, demanded justice and assured that the defendant was "very possessive and jealous" and never let her daughter go out alone.

On August 14, 2018, while the couple was out in the car, the defendant who was driving the vehicle, "at one point, brandished a 13.5 cm long knife and stabbed his wife at least eight times while she was in the passenger seat," explains the prosecution for whom the victim, due to the unexpected and sudden nature of the act, was defenseless. The victim, seriously injured on the lips, neck, shoulders, hand, forearm, wrist, and with a perforated lung and heart, did not survive.
