Moroccan Man Faces 9.5 Years for Attempted Murder of Wife in Spain

The Attorney General’s Office at the Criminal Court of Almeria, in southern Spain, has requested a sentence of 9 and a half years in prison against a Moroccan, found guilty of attempted murder and violence resulting in permanent disability.
In 2006, following a violent altercation, the individual had tried to kill his wife in the middle of the street. Thrown to the ground and beaten with stones, she had narrowly escaped death thanks to the intervention of some passers-by, who had managed to neutralize her aggressor.
The damage caused by the attack is irreversible, the Attorney General stressed in his indictment. Victim of severe head and eye trauma and a double fracture of the lower jaw, the woman had been hospitalized for nearly 60 days.
The Attorney General has requested a prison sentence of 9 and a half years and a 19-year ban on approaching the victim within 500 meters.
The Moroccan will also have to pay more than 100,000 euros in damages, including hospitalization (3,690 euros), incapacity to work (1,140 euros), physical sequelae (60,000 euros) and aesthetic damage (40,000).
