Moroccan Man Faces 25-Year Sentence in Spanish Femicide Trial

A Moroccan faces 25 years in prison for having stabbed to death, on August 14, 2018, his wife and mother of their son, in the suburb of Dúrcal, in southern Spain. His trial is scheduled for March at the Granada court.
The public prosecutor has requested 25 years for the 42-year-old Moroccan, who has been in pre-trial detention since he ended the life of his wife, Leyre, aged 21. His trial will take place from March 8 to 12, in the provincial court of Granada, with a popular jury who will be responsible for determining whether the defendant committed manslaughter or murder.
While the couple had gone out in the car, the defendant "at one point, brandished a 13.5 cm long knife and stabbed his wife at least eight times," explains the prosecution, for whom the victim, due to the unexpected and sudden nature of the act, was defenseless. There is no doubt for the prosecution: the Moroccan committed murder with full knowledge of the facts.
For these reasons, the prosecutor is asking the court to sentence the Moroccan to 25 years in prison. But in addition, he is asking the court to deprive him of parental authority over his son, and to prohibit him from approaching him within a radius of half a kilometer for 30 years.
