Moroccan Man Faces 10-Year Sentence for Alleged Kidnapping and Abuse of Wife in Spain

A Moroccan is accused of having kidnapped and imprisoned his wife for nine days in the Murcia region. The Almeria prosecutor’s office has requested a sentence of ten years in prison against him.

The victim, who married the accused in 2007 in Morocco, fled the marital home in 2019 to live in Spain due to the "multiple physical and psychological assaults" she suffered from the Moroccan, the prosecutor states in the indictment to which EFE had access.

In January 2020, the accused had gone to the woman’s residence in Almeria where he had allegedly assaulted her. On June 9 of the same year, he went to the victim’s home again, beat and stabbed her, then forcibly took her, with the help of another Moroccan, also accused in the case, to a residence in Lorca (Murcia). The victim was held there for nine days, before being released by the Civil Guard.

For these acts, the prosecutor has requested 10 years in prison for the Moroccan, accused of crimes of abuse, kidnapping and habitual violence. His accomplice faces five years in prison for the crime of kidnapping. The prosecution also demands restraining orders of 500 meters for a period of 13 years for the victim’s partner, and of six years for his alleged accomplice, as well as the payment of 360 euros to the victim as compensation.
