Moroccan Man Faces Trial for Series of Rapes in Paris After Years-Long Investigation

Abdellah O., a 34-year-old Moroccan, former baker, is being prosecuted for rape or attempted rape targeting four women, between May 2012 and June 2013, in the 20th arrondissement of Paris. The police of the 2nd district of the judicial police (DPJ) managed to identify him after a long investigation.
It took a six-year investigation for Abdellah O., accused of having raped two women and attempted to rape two others, to be identified. This, thanks to a Nokia phone lost by the aggressor at the scene of an attempted rape, rue des Prairies (20th), reports Le Parisien. Localized in Saragossa (Spain) in January 2018, Abdellah O., married and father of two young children, was extradited to France in February 2019.
He will then be placed in pre-trial detention. The former baker from eastern Paris admits to touching the buttocks of three victims, but completely rejects any digital penetration and any attempted rape during his interrogations. He is suspected of having committed these acts at 5:30 a.m. (in April 2013), 5:45 a.m. (December 2012) and 6:00 a.m. (June 2013) in streets near the Gambetta, Ménilmontant and Pyrénées metro stations.
What would justify the behavior of this young single man who was 26 years old at the time of the facts? Abdellah O. evokes his "stupidity" linked, according to him, to his young age, his virginity and the difference between Parisian life and Moroccan culture where women remain veiled, sheltered from male desires, specifies the same source.
The Paris prosecutor’s office requested, on April 15, the referral to the assize court of Abdellah O. for two rapes by digital penetration and two attempted rapes. It is now up to the investigating judge in charge of the case to rule by following these requisitions, or to decide to requalify the facts.
