Moroccan Man Dies After Brutal Assault in Spanish Park; Family Mourns
Isam Haddour, a 34-year-old Moroccan from Agadir, "happy, kind and hardworking," died Thursday from the injuries of a violent assault in Spain. His family and loved ones mourn his passing.
Isam Haddour was on his way to work by bicycle, from Oion to Logroño, when he was brutally attacked by a group of young people, including minors, in a park in Logroño. He died at the San Pedro de La Rioja hospital. "My brother was everything to me. I dreamed of seeing him married and with children; and in the end, I see him in a coffin. They took him from me," his sister said inconsolably.
"I still can’t believe what happened to him. No one deserves it, Isam even less. He never had any problems with anyone. He was friendly and kind to everyone and always had a smile on his face," testifies Iker Azkarate, owner of the Café where Isam usually had his breakfast.
Isam and his family arrived from Agadir in Spain 16 years ago and settled in Ribafrecha where their father already lived. Isam, with his bachelor’s degree obtained in Morocco, started looking for work to support the family. "As the eldest, he was determined to take on this responsibility," his loved ones point out. Before his last job as a delivery man in Logroño for a fast food restaurant, he had worked in a Chinese restaurant, and also as a welder in a foundry.
The news of his death has caused emotion and outrage in Oion.
