Moroccan Man in Ceuta Denied Spanish Citizenship Over Integration Concerns

A Moroccan residing in Ceuta (Sebta) for several years has been denied the granting of Spanish nationality. While the applicant’s wife is Spanish, the administrative chamber of the National Court states that it has rejected his file due to "his lack of integration and inappropriate civic behavior".
This 43-year-old Moroccan residing in Ceuta was born in Fnideq. Convinced that he met the criteria to gain Spanish nationality, he submitted his nationality application in Ceuta in 2012, attaching a certificate attesting that his wife is a Spaniard with whom he has had several children, reports El Faro de Ceuta.
However, for the administrative chamber of the National Court, the man was not sufficiently integrated into Spanish society.
Indeed, during the test he underwent, he showed many shortcomings in mastering the realities on the ground, expressing "strangeness" and "confusion" in terms of the rights and duties governing society and displaying a lack of knowledge of the institutions.
Worse, "the applicant did not speak Spanish well, and understood it with difficulty, even though he has lived in Ceuta for five years," the same source noted.
Furthermore, the chamber noted the applicant’s criminal record, who had recently been convicted of drug trafficking, while during this time, neither his wife nor himself work, to justify the necessary means to meet their needs.
All these shortcomings are so many unfavorable points that led the administrative chamber of the National Court to reject the application for the granting of nationality to this Moroccan.
