Moroccan Man Arrested for Wife’s Murder, Attempted Filicide in Spain

The police arrested on Saturday a man of Moroccan origin, accused of murdering his 35-year-old wife, and attempted murder on their three minor children.
Around 40 years old, the accused was arrested as he was trying to throw his three minor children into the Ebro to end their lives, reports the local newspaper La Rioja, specifying that the youngest of the children managed to escape and denounce him to the police.
A few hours earlier, their father was murdering their mother, in their second-floor apartment, located in La Rioja. The national and local police officers who went to the scene found the body of the defendant’s wife.
No complaint of gender-based violence had been filed against the Moroccan, according to the government delegation of La Rioja. Once it is confirmed that this is a case of gender-based violence, the Logroño town hall will activate the established mourning protocol.
The police have decreed judicial secrecy in the investigation. The government delegation has planned a tribute ceremony for the victim on Sunday at 12:00 pm in Espolón. The delegate, Beatriz Arraiz Nalda, has already condemned the act and expressed her closeness to the victim’s family and friends.
