Moroccan Man Acquitted in Migrant Smuggling and Drug Trafficking Case in Spain

The provincial court of Lanzarote acquitted the Moroccan Abdellatif Bourbaa, accused of having hidden a boat that arrived in Lanzarote with 11 migrants, one of whom died by drowning, and a cargo of 21.7 kilos of hashish, for lack of evidence.
Abdellatif Bourbaa was accused of having hidden the boat that arrived in Lanzarote with 11 migrants and 21.7 kilos of hashish.
The prosecutor demanded a sentence of 14 years and five months in prison against him, after having collected the testimony of three people. His lawyer, Mercedes Nieto Fajardo, on the other hand, requested his outright acquittal, based on the statement of four minors who were on board the boat.
In the absence of tangible evidence engaging the guilt of the Moroccan, the judge granted the defense’s request and acquitted the defendant outright.
