Moroccan Lawmakers Push for Affordable Travel for Diaspora in Summer 2024

The deputies of the Haraki group in the House of Representatives are asking the Ministry of Transport and Logistics to take measures to reduce travel ticket prices and facilitate the return to Morocco this summer of Moroccans residing abroad (MRE) as part of the Marhaba 2024 Operation.
In a written question addressed to the Minister of Transport, Mohamed Abdeljalil, regarding the "transport offers intended for Moroccans of the world", the president of the Haraki group in the House of Representatives, Driss Sentissi, called for the taking of concrete measures to allow the MRE, who contribute significantly to the development of their country of origin, to travel to the kingdom this summer to spend their summer vacation.
The MP recalled the special interest that King Mohammed VI gives to the MRE, stressing "the importance of seriously addressing the issues of Moroccans abroad, by developing a legislative framework and public policies that take into account their specificities, as well as administrative procedures adapted to their conditions".
Sentissi asked the Minister of Transport what measures he intends to take to reduce the prices of plane and boat tickets for the MRE who wish to visit the kingdom this summer, and to revise the rates of internal transport and car rental to facilitate their travel from ports and airports to their places of residence.
The ministry’s services are working to raise awareness among maritime and air companies so that they review their rates as part of the Marhaba Operation, Abdeljalil replied, recalling that ticket prices are subject to the rules of competition and the law of supply and demand. The ministry "cannot take any measure forcing maritime transport companies to reduce their rates in favor of Moroccans residing abroad," he specified.
