Moroccan Lawmaker Questioned in Major Drug Trafficking Investigation

An Istiqlal party parliamentarian was heard as part of an investigation into an international drug trafficking attempt thwarted by customs services in April 2022. A construction company had tried to smuggle cannabis in soap cartons.
The Istiqlal party parliamentarian was heard on Thursday and Friday by the elements of the National Brigade of the Judicial Police (BNPJ) as part of an investigation into the seizure of 10 tons of cannabis to be shipped to Europe through the port of Casablanca and 6 kg of cocaine (found at the home of the head of the drug trafficking network), reports the Arabic daily Al Akhbar.
On the order of the Attorney General of the King near the Court of Appeal of Casablanca, the BNPJ organized, last Friday at its headquarters in Casablanca, a confrontation between the main accused - the head of the drug trafficking network who had mentioned the name of the elected official - and the parliamentarian. The former claims to have only mentioned the name of the latter so that he would intervene on his behalf to get him out of prison. At the end of this confrontation, the parliamentarian was released, while the main accused remains in detention.
