Moroccan Labor Leader Noubir Amaoui, Founder of CDT Union, Dies at 85

The trade union world in Morocco loses one of its emblematic figures. Noubir Amaoui, the founder of the Democratic Confederation of Labor (CDT), died on Tuesday at the age of 85.
Noubir Amaoui, according to many of his colleagues, was one of the most ardent defenders of the working class. "We have lost one of the honest men," said Khalid Houir Alami, deputy secretary general of the CDT.
Noubir Amaoui was born in 1936 in the village of Bni Ahmed in the province of Settat. After university studies, he began a career as a primary school teacher before joining the educational inspection cycle years later.
He was the founder of the Democratic Confederation of Labor (CDT), of which he held the position of Secretary General from 1978 to 2018, before leaving his position, thus giving way to his deputy Abdelkader Zaër.
