Moroccan King’s Senegal Visit Postponed Due to Flu, Royal Palace Announces

King Mohammed VI was unable to travel to Dakar as planned on Wednesday, February 22, due to the flu he needs to treat in the coming days.
The Ministry of the Royal Household, Protocol and Chancellery announced in a statement that the king’s personal physician has recommended that the Moroccan sovereign take a rest period and avoid traveling to recover.
The visit of Mohammed VI to Dakar was planned as part of a visit of friendship and work aimed at strengthening the "exceptional" relations between the two countries.
The visit was intended to map out roadmaps to address the many security, economic and social challenges facing the two countries, as well as to formulate responses within the framework of a cooperative and solidarity-based approach.
During his stay, King Mohammed VI was to inaugurate a fishing quay in Soumbédioune, largely financed by Morocco for an amount of two million euros. He was also to inaugurate the Entrepreneurship Training Center in Diamniadio, near Dakar, and attend the signing of several cooperation agreements in various fields between the governments of the two countries.
In addition, the Moroccan sovereign had planned to attend the delivery of 5,000 tons of fertilizers adapted to African soils to Senegalese farmers, in order to help fight food insecurity in the region.
Trade between the two countries has been steadily increasing for a decade and is currently estimated at $320 million in combined flows in both directions. However, the Moroccan ambassador to Senegal believes that this volume is still below the potential of the two countries and the excellence of their political relations.
