Moroccan Kickboxers Adapt to Home Training During Lockdown

Faced with the monotony imposed by the confinement period, Moroccan champions of kickboxing and muay-thai have found alternatives to adapt to the new training modes, which are now done at home and especially with basic means.
In a statement to the MAP, the technical advisor of the Royal Moroccan Federation of Kickboxing, muay-thai, savate and related sports, Lahcen Hilali, recalled that Moroccan athletes have experienced difficulties in adapting to the current situation imposed by the pandemic.
For Lahcen Hilali, his protégés were able to participate in a virtual Arab championship of "shadow kickboxing", launched a week ago by the Arab Union of the discipline. According to him, this exceptional event was well received by the athletes who found an escape to break the routine of confinement.
According to the official, this special competition takes place through a video of the kickboxers in which the athletes are seen performing all the authorized techniques of the discipline against an imaginary opponent. In front of a jury, the participants were evaluated on the basis of specific criteria relating to the proper execution of kata techniques, the speed and rhythm of execution.
Like the Moroccan participations in the previous Arab competitions, the results of the nationals have been remarkable, rejoiced the president Hilali, specifying that most of the Moroccan kickboxers have, so far, crossed the first stage of the competition.
The national technician stressed that the technical management of the Royal Moroccan Federation of Kickboxing, muay-thai, savate and related sports, is working to encourage athletes to continue their training at home in order to overcome this ordeal, pending the resumption which will depend on the evolution of the health situation in the country.
