Moroccan Judge Sentenced to 5 Years for Corruption in High-Profile Rabat Case

A denunciation through the green number made available by the presidency of the public prosecutor’s office led to the downfall of a magistrate, previously president of the criminal chamber at the court of appeal of Beni Mellal. Convicted of corruption by the Rabat Court of Appeal, he was sentenced to five years in prison. The same sentence was imposed on his accomplice.
In addition to the prison sentence, the magistrate was fined 200,000 dirhams, 150,000 dirhams for his accomplice, a "judicial samsar" and municipal councilor of Beni Mellal. With the help of the latter, the one who was before his conviction president of the criminal chamber at the court of appeal of Beni Mellal would have blackmailed a lady whose son is on trial in a case of a crime resulting in the death of a man. According to the "deal", the mother of the defendant had to pay them 150,000 dirhams before her son’s hearing, so that an acquittal or mitigating circumstances would be taken into account in his favor, reports the Arabic-language daily Al Akhbar.
The lady denounces the magistrate and his accomplice through the green number made available by the presidency of the public prosecutor’s office. Following the advice of the public prosecutor’s office, the plaintiff responded favorably to the request of the magistrate and his "samsar". A trap planned with the prosecutor of the king in Beni Mellal. Last July, she set them an appointment in a rest area between Beni Mellal and Khouribga, in order to hand them the required sum. This is how the magistrate and his accomplice were arrested in the act of corruption.
