Moroccan Prosecutor Arrested for Bribery After Anti-Corruption Hotline Tip

A deputy prosecutor general of the King near the Court of Appeal of Tangier was recently arrested following a complaint for extortion. At the origin of this arrest, a call to the green number set up by the presidency of the public prosecutor’s office to report blackmail and corruption.
The incident took place last Tuesday, when the magistrate was caught receiving a bribe of 20,000 dirhams. The latter had apparently demanded this sum in exchange for his intervention in a legal case, reports Assabah. The victim reported the case of blackmail through the green number, thus triggering a joint operation by the public prosecutor’s office in Tangier and the judicial police services, leading to the arrest of the magistrate.
This case is part of a series of arrests for corruption, targeting magistrates and civil servants, which have taken place in recent years, recalls the same source. Thanks to the green number, 38 cases of flagrant corruption were recorded in 2022, bringing the total to 238 cases since its launch in May 2018.
