Moroccan Journalist Omar Radi Detained on Rape and National Security Charges

Journalist and human rights activist, Omar Radi, has just been placed in pre-trial detention. The decision was made by the Attorney General of the King near the Court of Appeal of Casablanca.
The accusations against the journalist are very serious. They are "indecent assault with violence and rape, receipt of foreign funds with the intention of undermining the internal security of the State and making contact with agents of foreign countries in order to harm Morocco’s diplomatic situation".
According to the statement from the Attorney General of the King, it is specified that it all started with a complaint filed by a citizen for indecent assault with violence and rape. This is how an investigation was conducted by the judicial police services of the Royal Gendarmerie in Casablanca.
The competent public prosecutor’s office also requested an investigation into the receipt of funds from foreign parties with the intention of undermining the internal security of the State and making contacts with agents of foreign countries to harm Morocco’s diplomatic situation, two offenses that are included in Articles 191 and 206 of the Penal Code.
