Moroccan Islamist Party Urges Ban on Booba Concert Amid Controversy

The Party of Justice and Development (PJD) joins the calls to boycott the concert of French rapper Booba, scheduled for June 21 in Casablanca, by asking the Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, to ban it.
Booba unwanted in Morocco. In a written question, the deputy of the Islamist party, Naima El Fathaoui, asks the Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, to ban Booba’s concert in the name of the "rehabilitation of the Moroccan woman and the preservation of her dignity". "The announcement of the organization of a concert by a famous French rapper in the covered hall of the Mohammed V complex in Casablanca next June has sparked a wide controversy on Moroccan social networks," she said, recalling that "thousands of Moroccan activists have expressed their anger" and "claim that the singer has harmed Moroccan women in one of his songs, by calling them ’prostitutes’".

"The rapper in question was famous for having raised controversy in many cases, and Instagram banned his account following a decision of the judicial court of Marseille in 2022, after a complaint related to sexual harassment," filed against Booba, the elected official also pointed out.
