Moroccan Inmate, 23, Dies from Suspected Drug Overdose in Spanish Prison

The Moroccan inmate who was found last Thursday in his prison cell in Zuera, in northern Spain, would have died after ingesting a cocktail of drugs and drugs, according to prison sources.
Aged 23, this is the first death this year in this prison, the officials say, according to whom Amine, incarcerated since 2019 for various theft offenses, was a polysubstance abuser, as recognized by his family cited by the newspaper Heraldo. Apparently, this was not the first time the Moroccan had ingested a cocktail of drugs.
It was precisely this behavior that had earned him, on several occasions, sanctions from the management, which recalls that the inmate is obliged to go to the infirmary to take his medication and this in the presence of a nurse who forces him to open his mouth to make sure he has actually taken the prescribed medications.
His cellmate told investigators that he had not noticed anything unusual throughout the night before the discovery, by prison officers, of his death at 8 a.m.
According to the newspaper, the victim’s sister has expressed her intention to file a complaint against the prison authorities.
