Moroccan Influencers Seek Tax Havens as Authorities Crack Down on Unreported Income

While they are summoned to regularize their situation with the Directorate General of Taxes (DGI), many Moroccan YouTubers and influencers are turning to international law firms specialized in tax evasion to place their income in tax havens.
International law firms specialized in tax evasion are opening accounts in tax havens for Moroccan YouTubers and influencers who want to conceal their true income in exchange for "significant commissions", reports Assabah. These firms are responsible for monitoring and managing the accounts. They also guarantee the anonymity of their clients. The regulations in force allow this. However, the names of the true account owners must be disclosed in the event of judicial investigations, suspicions of money laundering or terrorist financing.
Moroccan YouTubers and influencers have found this trick to circumvent the Directorate General of Taxes (DGI). The latter has launched a procedure to allow many of them to regularize their situation within a one-month period. It is a question of declaring the volume of transactions received from foreign brands, "the export of services abroad" being subject to a specific tax regime.
While they try to escape Moroccan taxation, a team of DGI observers is striving to detect tax evasion. Insomnia is in prospect for these Moroccan influencers.
