Moroccan Horror Film "Achoura" Wins Special Mention at Sitges Festival

The prestigious festival that rewards the best fantastic and horror films in the world, the Sitges Fantastic Film Festival, which was held from October 3 to 13 in Spain, distinguished the Moroccan film "Achoura" by Talal Selhami on Saturday evening.

This work by the Franco-Moroccan director and screenwriter, Tala Selhami, was rewarded for the artistic quality and direction of the film, the result of a Franco-Moroccan production. The film, according to HuffPost, seduced the jury of the Festival, which awarded its Special Mention to "Achoura".

For the same media, this film is expected very soon in Moroccan cinemas, after its Premiere in December 2018.

In addition to this new distinction from Sitges, one of the main genre festivals in the world and which is held every year in this town on the Costa de Barcelona, the Moroccan director was also awarded the Grand Prix of the Hard Line Festival, organized in the German city of Regensburg, early October.

Among the achievements of this filmmaker who honors Morocco, there are several short films, namely "Patient X" (2003), "The Victim of the Past" (2004), "Strange?" (2004), "Consequence of a Crash (without major incidents)" (2005), "Sinistra" (2006) and "Going up in smoke" (2007).

In 2012, the youngest son of the Moroccan journalist, Mohamed Selhami, founder of the newspaper, Maroc hebdo international, tried his hand at documentary with "Mekkeh: the futur in 3D".

It wasn’t until 2010 that he directed his first feature film, "Mirages", followed by "The Bizarre Theater 2: Grand Guignol", "The Oasis" in 2012 and "Conflict of Interest" in 2013.
