Moroccan Foreign Investments Surge 68% to $444 Million in First Half of Year

Moroccan investments abroad have increased by 68.1% in the first half, reaching 4.2 billion dirhams (444 million dollars) at the end of June, according to the latest figures published by the Office of Foreign Exchange.

According to data from the Office of Foreign Exchange, the company "Tigo Télécom" is one of the largest Moroccan investments abroad. This acquisition was made by "Maroc Telecom" in Chad in mid-March. In addition to this telecommunications operator, Morocco is extending its tentacles to investments in luxury and medium-sized real estate, thanks to the opening of a branch of its luxury real estate company, "Prestige", in Abidjan, as part of the launch of the "Abidjan" manor, consisting of luxury housing and tourist residences. This jewel is located near the business district, "The Plateau".

At the end of June 2019, the net inflows of foreign investments in Morocco reached 19%, for 8.3 billion dirhams (872 million dollars). As for Morocco’s trade deficit, it widened by 4.9%, to 102.5 billion dirhams (10.8 billion dollars). Imports of goods and merchandise are up 3.8%, to 250.6 billion dirhams (26.4 billion dollars).

While investments are peaking abroad, Moroccan exports have suffered during this period from the contraction of the international automotive market. It happens to be the first source sector in Morocco. On the other hand, Moroccan exports of spare parts have seen an increase of 4.8%, to reach 18.3 billion dirhams (1.93 billion dollars), compared to 7.8% over the same period, for spare parts, with a peak of 22.1 billion dirhams (2.3 billion dollars).

As for the other sectors, the same source reports that an increase was recorded in the level of exports of agricultural products and food industries (6.7%), in those of aircraft from the emerging industry (12%), in phosphate exports (12%) as well as its derivatives (1.1%).
