Moroccan Football League to Resume Play Despite COVID-19 Concerns

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) met on Thursday and discussed various topics including the resumption of the national championship. Thus, according to the decision taken by the Executive Committee, the 2021-2022 Botola season will start this month.
In a press release, the FRMF indicated that the scheduling of the national football championship will take into account Morocco’s participation in the 2021 Qatar Arab Cup and the 2022 CAN Cameroon. The Federation also stated that it had received a request from Moghreb Tétouan to increase the number of clubs competing in Botola Pro D1 Inwi from 16 to 18. The request was the subject of extensive debate and is currently being studied by a commission which will submit its conclusion to the FRMF Executive Committee at its next meeting scheduled for August 21.
During the same meeting, Fouzi Lekjaa recalled the participation of the national local players’ team in the 2021 Qatar Arab Cup scheduled for December 2021, as well as that of the A national team in the final phase of the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Cameroon. He also announced that the Atlas Lions will play two official matches against Sudan on September 3, 2021 in Rabat and against Guinea four days later in Conakry, for the 1st and 2nd days of the (African Zone) qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The President of the FRMF also indicated that the final of the Mohammed VI Cup of Arab Champion Clubs will oppose Raja Casablanca and the Saudi club of Ittihad Jeddah on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat. Wydad Casablanca and Raja Casablanca are the clubs that will represent Morocco in the CAF Champions League. AS FAR and Renaissance Berkane will take part in the CAF Confederation Cup.
