Moroccan Football Clubs Face Sanctions After Stadium Violence in Rabat

Wednesday 16 March 2022, by Ginette

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation, through the Central Commission for Discipline and Fair Play, has sanctioned AS FAR and Maghreb de Fès, following the events that took place during the match played on Sunday as part of the 2020-2021 Throne Cup qualifiers, at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat.

In a statement, the Commission states that it has made its decision, taking into account the reports that were drawn up on the incident and after viewing the video footage of the acts of violence that occurred and which discredit the image of national football, reports La MAP.

Thus, as a sanction, AS FAR will play all its matches behind closed doors with a formal ban on its supporters from attending away matches for the rest of the sports season. According to the commission, AS FAR supporters had violent gestures causing serious injuries and material damage. The club is fined 50,000 dirhams for throwing stones and other objects onto the playing field. It must pay another fine of 50,000 dirhams for the invasion of the stadium pitch by the club’s supporters.

AS FAR is ordered to pay a fine of 20,000 dirhams for the use of flares by its supporters. Finally, the club must fully cover the cost of repairing the damage that occurred at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat and its equipment after evaluation.

As for the MAS, it is subject to the same sanctions as AS FAR, but is exempt from covering the cost of repairing the damage caused to the venues that hosted the match.
