Moroccan Football Club’s Financial Crisis: Fans Fund Team Bus Fuel for Match
Thursday 8 February 2024, by
The Mas Fès football team in Morocco is hitting rock bottom. It was unable to pay for the fuel of the bus that was supposed to transport the players for a Botola 1 (1st division!) match.
Faced with huge financial problems, the team did not have the means to pay for the fuel to go to Tetouan for an official match. And it was the club’s supporters who mobilized to find a solution and pay for the fuel.
This financial impasse follows a demonstration organized by these same supporters in the center of Fès, to express their distress in the face of the club’s recurring difficulties.
The MAS Fès supporters criticized the lack of support from the local authorities in the face of the urgency of the situation. This frustration intensified after an incident in Mohammedia where the team, due to unpaid bills and lack of transportation, found itself unable to leave its hotel after a training camp.
Faced with the crisis and under pressure from the supporters, Ismail El Jamai, the club’s president and real estate developer, decided to resign, the supporters blaming him for disastrous management, marked by a drop in the team’s performance and unfulfilled promises. Despite his resignation, El Jamai retained a role within the organization, which led to a new wave of protests demanding his definitive departure to allow the club to overcome this crisis.
