Moroccan Football Chief Fouzi Lekjâa Elected to FIFA Council in Historic First

Morocco has just made its entry for the first time on the Council of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA). The election of Fouzi Lekjâa took place this Friday, on the occasion of the 43rd Ordinary and Electoral General Assembly of the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation will sit in the Arabic, Portuguese and Spanish speaking group alongside the Egyptian, Hani Abou Rida.
The Moroccan was elected to this position following the withdrawal of the President of the Algerian Football Federation, Kheïreddine Zetchi, who was also a candidate. This victory for Morocco is to the credit of the diplomacy of the President of the FRMF who was able to benefit from the trust of his peers first at the national level and then at the continental level.
In addition to his position within FIFA, President Fouzi Lekjâa, a senior finance executive, is elected second vice-president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF). He also holds several positions within the bodies and commissions of world and continental football: he is president of the CAF Finance Commission and vice-president of the Commission for the organization of inter-club competitions and the management of the club licensing system within the CAF.
By obtaining this seat on the commission, the President of the FRMF could claim the position of FIFA President. President Infantino seems well disposed to support him in this fight.
