Moroccan Fisherman Dies in Spanish Trawler Fire off French Coast

The Consulate General of Morocco in Girona (northeast Spain) announced the death of a fisherman of Moroccan origin who died following a fire last Friday on board a Spanish trawler where he was working.
It is a 50-year-old man, drowned in his attempt to escape the flames. According to the same source consulted by Hespress, the rescue services were able to recover the lifeless body of the Moroccan fisherman who had jumped into the sea, with the other crew members, from the burning boat.
Essentially, the same source informs us that "the fire broke out when the Spanish fishing boat, attached to the port of Selva in the province of Girona, was sailing in French territorial waters".
While the four other members of the Spanish trawler’s crew were rescued alive by the rescue services, before being transferred to the Figueres hospital, they would be suffering from hypothermia.
This Saturday, the family of the Moroccan fisherman received a visit from the Moroccan consular services in Girona. The procedure for repatriating the victim’s body to Morocco would already be underway.
