Moroccan Finalist Competes for $3.2 Million in Global Quran Recitation Contest

Abdellah Doghri, a Moroccan, has managed to qualify for the final of Otr Elkalam, the largest Quran and Adhan (call to prayer) competition initiated by the General Entertainment Authority (GEA).
His qualification was acquired at the expense of his compatriot Mohammed Al-Habti, despite his distinguished performance in the recitation of the Quran, the application of the rules of chanting and the use of "maqamats".
The competition aims to promote tolerance and moderate Islam, while highlighting the aesthetics of voices and celebrating talents in Quran recitation and the call to prayer. The winner will receive a grand prize of over 12 million riyals ($3.2 million).
