Moroccan Film Icon Noureddine Saïl Dies at 73 from COVID-19

Noureddine Saïl, former director of the television channel 2M and the Moroccan Cinematographic Center (CCM) died, in the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, from the effects of Covid-19. He was 73 years old.
"This great cinephile, lover of Africa like no one else has taken his leave. Noureddine Saïl was simplicity, courage and integrity," wrote his wife, journalist Nadia Larguet, on Facebook. Infected with Covid-19, Noureddine Saïl had been admitted to the Sheikh Zayed Hospital in Rabat in serious condition. He did not survive.
The illustrious deceased had several hats: screenwriter, novelist and producer. In 1973, he had founded the National Federation of Cine-Clubs of Morocco, known for its pioneering role in the dissemination of film culture in the kingdom. He had also created the Khouribga African Film Festival.
Mr. Saïl had directed 2M from 2000 to 2003 and the Moroccan Cinematographic Center (CCM) from 2003-2014.
