Moroccan Father Arrested for Abandoning Children in Spain During 40-Day Morocco Trip

The police arrested a 43-year-old Moroccan for having abandoned his minor children, aged 16 and 13, in the family home in Granada (southern Spain) for more than 40 days, to go on vacation to Morocco.
The defendant, with a clean criminal record, left for Morocco, leaving the two minors with a little milk and a modest sum of money. During his 40 days of absence, he did not contact them, reports Ok Diario. The Moroccan was arrested upon his return from Morocco, after agents from the Unit for the Fight against Illegal Immigration Networks and Document Forgeries (UCRIF) were informed by a minor center of the arrival of two Moroccan minors, "hungry", in "underwear" and in very "poor condition".
The two 16 and 13 year old minors had been legally residing in Spain since last summer with their father, who went to Morocco at the end of November without giving any sign of life. Their mother, on the other hand, resides in Morocco and has not yet started the formalities to join them in Spain. During the 40 days, the children survived thanks to the food brought to them by a relative of the family residing in the same city and some neighbors, according to the police.
The Moroccan was made available to the judicial authority, which issued an order to remove the children from the irresponsible father as well as an order prohibiting him from leaving the national territory. As for the two minors, they have been placed in a minor center under the responsibility of the Andalusia Council.
