Moroccan Farmworker Dies of Cancer After Losing Job in Spain

A Moroccan seasonal worker succumbed to terminal uterine cancer in Spain. Fired in February by her employer after the discovery of her illness, she was able to count on the support of some Spanish associations to survive.
At 37, Fatima, mother of three children, lost her long battle against uterine cancer, reports El Mar de Onuba. She could have lived much longer if she had been able to count on the support of her employer, the company Frutas García Molina SL, which had hired her since April 2018.
Following a malaise after a nosebleed, this young woman had been diagnosed in February 2020 with terminal uterine cancer. Informed, her employer dismissed her. Thrown out on the street and without any compensation except her return flight to Morocco, Fatima was housed by the Jornaleras de Huelva en Lucha (Seasonal Workers of Huelva in Struggle) collective, the Asisti Cuenca Minera Association and other local associations.
For 10 months, she benefited from the support of these good-willed people to fight against this cancer that ultimately took her life. Since the transfer of her remains to the Vázquez Días hospital in Huelva, the associations still have to fight for her repatriation to Morocco.
According to the same source, the young woman, during her lifetime, recorded a moving video in which she invited her mother to take care of her children aged 13 and 14 as well as the youngest under one year old.
