Moroccan Farmers Visit Spain to Learn Advanced Irrigation Techniques

As part of a project of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) for water efficiency and sustainability in North Africa, a group of 26 Moroccan farmers was in Palos de la Frontera (Huelva) on Wednesday to learn about the irrigation system.
The 26 members of the Moroccan delegation come from the provincial directorate of Agriculture of Berrechid (members of the water and agriculture service), various agricultural associations in Morocco, the Bouregreg and Chaouia water basin agency and FAO staff in Morocco.
The Moroccan delegation, very impressed by the organization of CR Palos, asked the Secretary General of the Irrigation Community, Fernando Sánchez, for advice and suggestions for the proper management of agricultural projects in Morocco. They also visited the photovoltaic station of sector III and were very interested in this type of energy for water pumping. They were also able to see the community irrigation control systems for irrigation efficiency and water use control without loss of productivity.
The Moroccan farmers and technicians, once back in Morocco, plan to establish a comprehensive water balance (supply, demand, uses and recycling, current and forecast), as well as monitoring the level of achievement of the set objectives. They also intend to implement a series of actions to increase the efficiency and productivity of water.
