Moroccan Fans’ World Cup Celebration Sparks Controversy with Spanish Far-Right Politician

A young Moroccan reacted to a tweet by Rocío de Meer, a deputy from the Spanish far-right party Vox, who seemed to criticize Moroccans in Almeria for celebrating Morocco’s victory over Belgium in the World Cup in Qatar.
"This is not Marrakech, this is Manolo Escobar Street in El Ejido (Almeria) celebrating Morocco’s victory over Belgium. And that’s exactly what multiculturalism is. A failure," De Meer tweeted, captioning a video showing hundreds of Moroccans in the city expressing their joy after their national team’s victory.
The young Moroccan, with the username @10wawy, condemned the deputy’s remarks. "We have done nothing wrong or hurt anyone, we are simply celebrating the victory of our national team," he said in a tweet that has already garnered more than 16,000 likes and 2,400 shares.
He added: "Then you have the English in Tenerife destroying everything and you don’t talk about it." Several internet users praised the young Moroccan’s reaction and reminded the deputy that Spaniards also gather abroad to celebrate victories.
