Moroccan Family with Infant Rescued from Migrant Boat Near Canary Islands

A Moroccan family consisting of the two parents, two children and a 3-month-old baby was found on a makeshift boat along with 24 other illegal migrants as they attempted the crossing to the Canary Islands.
Sources within the Royal Gendarmerie cited by the newspaper Al Ahdath Al Maghribia indicate that they were all intercepted on the night of Friday to Saturday about 10 kilometers from Agadir but still some 400 km from Lanzarote.
According to the newspaper, the family decided to leave everything behind in Guelmim, 200 km from Agadir, asking the children (13 and 16 years old) to skip school to attempt the illegal crossing after paying 65,000 dirhams to smugglers.
Among the people on the makeshift boat were women, university students, the daily reports, stating that they were all presented last week to the judge of Tiznit, who decided to detain three organizers of the trip and release the other migrants, who remain prosecuted nonetheless.
