Moroccan Families Rush to Buy School Supplies as Prices Soar

The city of Casablanca has become a large market for school supplies. As preparations for the school year are in full swing, parents and resellers are rushing to find various school products before the prices of the items skyrocket.
For this school year scheduled for September 5, Moroccan families are actively preparing to avoid the high cost of school supplies, according to Challenge. Competition is increasingly fierce between small traders and bookstores.
According to the same source, in terms of purchasing textbooks and school supplies, a primary school student in a public school costs his parents an average of 700 DH in total, and 1,000 DH in middle school. In private schools, the cost is 1,500 DH in primary and 2,800 DH in middle school. In high school, it’s a little more expensive. At least 3,500 DH with textbooks that can go up to 500 DH.
The sector seems to be thriving, especially as the school year approaches and during the school year. Even some young cart drivers change their activity during this period and turn to the sale of school supplies.
