Moroccan Families Opt for Apartment Rentals as Hotel Prices Soar

During this summer period, many Moroccan families are opting for the rental of daily apartments, particularly in coastal cities. This trend, largely motivated by economic reasons, is explained in particular by the rise in hotel rates and the saturation of available establishments.
The appeal of daily rental apartments is increasing due to budgetary constraints. Families find in this option a more affordable alternative to hotels, often out of reach during this high tourist season. This choice is reinforced by the fact that many Moroccans with second homes prefer to furnish them and offer them for rent during the summer. This practice allows them to generate significant additional income.
However, this growing popularity is not without raising problems. The lack of specific regulation in this sector leaves tenants without recourse in case of disputes. Several incidents have been reported, showing the vulnerability of vacationers to risks such as theft, aggression or scams orchestrated by unscrupulous brokers. The latter are particularly present in the coastal cities of northern Morocco, where the demand for temporary housing is strong.
Faced with this situation, many actors in the sector are calling for the establishment of strict regulations. Such a measure would, according to them, secure transactions and protect both tenants and owners. The implementation of adapted laws would guarantee a clear and secure legal framework, thus reducing the risks of abuse and incidents. Even if it is slow, the government knows that it will have to regulate the sector, as the country must organize several major events in the coming years.
