Moroccan Expats Urge Streamlined Border Procedures at Melilla Crossing

The Moroccan League for the Defense of Human Rights in Zeghanghane (Nador) has called on the competent authorities to simplify customs procedures and speed up control operations at the Bab Melilla border post during Operation Marhaba marking the return of Moroccans from Europe to Morocco during the summer.
In a statement, the League indicates that it has received several complaints from MREs denouncing the "complexity" of customs procedures at this crossing point. These procedures cause massive traffic jams at the border, where MREs spend hours in long queues under the sun and in uncomfortable conditions. A situation that affects the daily lives of Melilla’s inhabitants.
For these reasons, the League asks the competent Moroccan and Melilla authorities to take measures to make life easier for MREs as part of Operation Marhaba, particularly by simplifying entry procedures to reduce endless waiting times. The statement also emphasized the need to facilitate customs procedures for Moroccans from Europe, especially during the return phase of the Transit Operation.
Operation Marhaba marks the return to Morocco, by land, air and sea, of Moroccans residing abroad, mainly from Europe, for summer holidays. It takes place every year from June 15 to September 15.
