Moroccan Expats in Spain Protest Travel Restrictions, Demand Open Borders

Moroccans residing in Spain once again demonstrated on Saturday, March 12, in front of the Moroccan consulates in Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia, Murcia, Girona, Tarragona, Algeciras and Ibiza, to protest against the continued travel restrictions to the kingdom. They call on the Moroccan government to open the borders without restrictions.
And this is the 3rd time for activists from the Moroccan community residing in Spain. On Saturday, they cried out again their frustration with the continued travel restrictions to Morocco. "Closing the country’s doors to Moroccan citizens is an issue that cannot be overlooked," they said in a statement. They call on the head of government Aziz Akhannouch to fully assume his political responsibility for the material and economic consequences resulting from this decision, which has very negatively affected vital sectors of the country and led to the bankruptcy of many merchants and craftsmen.
Recalling that Morocco reopened its air borders on February 7th, "after a long wait and unjustified silence on the part of the Moroccan government, and thanks to the pressure and protests led by many Moroccan activists in Europe, especially those of the Moroccan diaspora in Spain," the protesters consider the conditions for access to Moroccan territory to be exaggerated, arbitrary and incompatible with most of the measures taken by other countries to curb the spread of Covid-19. These conditions are: presentation of a vaccination certificate and a negative PCR test result less than 48 hours old.
"The requirement to provide a vaccination certificate to enter Morocco contradicts the requirements of the Moroccan constitution," the protesters stressed. They intend to adopt an uncompromising attitude until their demands are met, namely the reopening of the Moroccan borders without restrictions.
