Moroccan Expats Protest Long Delays at Ceuta-Morocco Border Crossing

Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) can no longer stand spending hours at the Tarajal border before entering Morocco. They demonstrated to ask the authorities to find a solution to this situation.
Tension has risen among the MREs who spend more than four hours at the Tarajal border before accessing Morocco. Hours to spend without being able to eat and drink, not a single cafe or restaurant being open in the area.
In reality, Ceuta has not prepared well to manage the influx of MREs this year as part of the Marhaba Operation, believes El Faro de Ceuta. "Either we all leave, or none of us move," denounced the MREs who demonstrated after being blocked for hours at the border.
The police had to intervene to calm the overheated spirits. The MREs are tired of this long waiting time caused by the exhaustive checks (documents and vaccination passes) carried out by the Moroccan authorities.
The border esplanade was full, and yet, vehicles continued to arrive. In total, nearly 610 vehicles spent more than 6 hours in the queue. For its part, the government delegation assured that measures will be taken to resolve the situation. Other waiting areas could be opened.
