Moroccan Expats Protest Alcohol and Shisha Bar Expansion in Marrakech

A complaint has been filed by Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) against the owner of a premises under renovation in the Zaitoun residence on Mohammed VI Boulevard in Marrakech.
The letter, addressed to the Wali of the region, denounces the abuses of the owner who operates his premises in illicit activities related to the consumption of alcohol and shisha, and who intends to annex a new public space there.
"Every time we return to Morocco, we are forced to endure the shameful and immoral acts emanating from the premises at the bottom of the building, used for the consumption of alcohol and shisha. Annexing a third space can only harm us," the MREs said in their petition.
According to Kech24, the residents have asked the Wali to send a commission to the site, in order to stop the ongoing work and repair the damage caused by these premises, by withdrawing the authorization to operate.
