Moroccan Expats' Mass Return Causes Miles-Long Traffic Jams in Fnideq

Traffic is heavy on Boulevard Hassan II in the city of Fnideq due to thousands of Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) who have booked their return tickets between Thursday and Sunday to return to their host countries.

The traffic jams have reached about five kilometers, and traffic difficulties are still expected during the return phase of the Marhaba Operation 2022. This situation has led to the implementation of measures likely to ensure the fluidity and safety of the circuits without influencing the control and check-in operations. Meetings have thus been held between the various officials in order to reduce the waiting time at the border as much as possible, reports the Arabic daily Al Akhbar.

Some 35,332 vehicles and 145,968 passengers have embarked at Sebta bound for Algeciras since August 16, as part of the return phase of the Marhaba Operation which started on July 15.
