Moroccan Expats Face Delays and Protest Poor Conditions at Spanish Ports During Annual Return

While the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity has set up a unique humanitarian system to welcome Moroccans living abroad (MREs) as part of the Marhaba 2022 operation, disruptions are observed at the ports of Algeciras and Ceuta. Enough to provoke the anger of the MREs.
Disruptions, long queues, massive traffic jams... The Spanish port of Algeciras is struggling to accompany the significant influx of MREs who have flocked during this summer season. Dissatisfied, the MREs are protesting on site and denouncing the conditions of reception and boarding, reports the daily Assabah. According to some, "the port authority, which had nevertheless announced new measures, would not have deployed enough human and material resources to ensure the fluidity of passenger and vehicle traffic." For its part, the Workers’ Union of Ports in Andalusia has called on the port authorities concerned by the Marhaba 2022 operation to act to ensure a better crossing of the Strait of Gibraltar.
The MREs who find themselves at the port of Ceuta are also experiencing the same situation. On the ground, there are long queues of kilometers at the border. The origin of this blockage is the lack of necessary infrastructure and the lack of means to cope with a large number of travelers.
