Moroccan Expatriate Remittances Set to Hit Record $10 Billion in 2021

Remittances made by Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) have continued their upward trend observed in recent months, and should reach 95 billion dirhams (MMDH) by the end of the year, according to Bank Al-Maghrib.
This increase corresponds to a growth of 38.9% compared to the previous year, indicates the central bank, thus confirming the forecasts of the foreign exchange office.
On the other hand, for the year 2022, BAM forecasts an amount of 72.8 billion dirhams, i.e. a contraction of 23.2%, in line with their pre-crisis trend, specifies BAM.
However, these figures are up compared to 2019 and 2020. Transfers from MREs, which have shown some resilience to the pandemic, improved by 4.9% in 2020, going from 65 MMDH in 2019 to 68.2 MMDH in 2020.
