Moroccan Expat Travel to Spain Dips in Annual Summer Migration

This year’s Operation Strait Crossing (OPE), launched on June 15, records a slight decrease in the number of passengers and vehicles crossing the Strait of Gibraltar, compared to last year.
According to the Spanish Civil Protection, cited by Andalucia Informacion, so far, 365,397 passengers and 89,466 vehicles have crossed the strait, figures lower than those of the previous edition.
The largest number of passengers transit through the ports of Cadiz, mainly Algeciras and Tarifa. Algeciras has seen the passage of 207,531 people and 57,148 vehicles to date. Tarifa follows with 62,196 passengers and 8,106 vehicles between June 15 and July 6. The Algeciras - Tangier route alone accounts for 41.6% of the total recorded movements.
Despite a slowdown in Operation Marhaba compared to last year, the port of Tarifa is seeing growth in the number of passengers and vehicles. An increase is expected this weekend, when many passengers and vehicles are expected to use the ports of Cadiz for their summer return.
